Tatami is a traditional Japanese flooring mat made of quality rice straws as you may know. The edge cloth of Tatami is called Tatami-beri which is very strong and light. 
In the past, Tatami-beri that could be used were determined by status, and it was forbidden to wear tatami-beri that were higher than your own position. But now, it has become possible to freely choose patterns according to one’s taste.
